Let your imagination run free! 8 km from Clermont l’Hérault, enormous dolomite rock columns punctuate an area of 300 hectares. This wild and tortuous landscape is the by-product of erosion. The giant sculptures take on the shapes of ruins, mediaeval towers, grimacing heads and strange animals. It’s also a site of great interest to geographers and geologists. Four walking routes are available from Mourèze and another walk beginning at Liausson leads to the ruins of a hermitage with astonishing views of the ‘cirque’ and the Lac du Salagou (Salagou lake). This site gets very hot in high summer and the walks are recommended for earlier or later in the season.
